While you’ve worked remotely for the past several weeks, you must’ve noticed that breaks matter. However, when your co-workers aren’t there to remind you about lunch or coffee breaks, it’s easy to forget. A quick social media browse doesn’t count, either. What can you do to step away from your desk—and come back recharged and productive?
Here are four ideas to schedule in routine breaks.
1. Grab a snack/ Drink more water
A midday snack can work wonders for your energy and concentration. Try to stock up on food that provides brain-power. Mixed berries or baked kale chips not only taste yummy but supply helpful antioxidants. Another great idea is to set a big bottle of water at your workstation and replace it at least 2-3 times a day. Drinking more water means you’ll get up more often to use the restroom and won’t be stuck sitting in one place for too long.
2. Get up to wash your hands
In this current situation, it’s more necessary than ever to practice thorough hygiene. A great break idea is to get up from your seat, stretch your legs, and wash your hands. You’ll need to do so for at least 20 seconds. Make sure to turn off your faucet and save water, as you do so.
3. Read an article

It’s essential to stay informed, especially as we face a global challenge. But, lighthearted features can be an easy way to decompress. Browse multiple publications or head to your trusted source. And if you need some sunshine, head outside, and read there.
4. Take a walk

If you’re required to sit at a desk for eight hours, your body doesn’t exactly feel awesome at the end of the day. A standing desk provides a ton of benefits, but not everyone has one at home. Instead, do your best to set aside time for a walk. You can take your dog or head out solo. Either way, choose a route that’s easy to navigate. You could complete a loop around your block or a nearby path. As a bonus, you’ll be able to enjoy some fresh air and vitamin D—which helps fight off certain infections and improve bone density and structure.
Take routine breaks for a better workday
These suggestions will help you rest for a few minutes. As a result, you’ll return to your desk with renewed mental and physical energy.
