4 Ways to Enjoy the Outdoors (From Indoors)

4 Ways to Enjoy the Outdoors (From Indoors) Expand options

Though we can’t eat picnics at our favorite parks or hang out with friends, there are a ton of ways to enjoy the outdoors from indoors. You may need to get a little creative, but it’s possible! Even if you want to avoid public areas altogether, you can still achieve your daily dose of vitamin D—all during self-quarantine.

Take a look at these ideas.

1. Try an at-home workout

Sometimes, a little outdoor Pilates or yoga helps you feel a lot better. If you want to hang out outside, try a home workout on your porch. You could set up a mat, weights and any other equipment that’s around. If you want to try a new exercise, many gyms and instructors have started to offer free video lessons for anyone to access. Make sure to apply some sunscreen so that your skin stays protected.

2. Remodel your backyard

You don’t need to spend every day inside, so why not transform your deck or patio? Now’s a terrific opportunity to apply a new coat of paint and replace old hardwood or tile. You could also install an awning for shade, which tends to create a 10- to 20-degree drop in temperature. Add some outdoor furniture, too. After you complete the updates, break out the grill, or set up a fire pit to enjoy with your family.

A few changes can make a massive difference to any space – and a peaceful outdoor area could be what you need at the moment.

3. Organize an activity

If you and your family want to spend more time outside, try to organize a fun activity. You could set up a movie night under the stars, or put together a water slide on a hot day. Ask everyone to come up with an idea and plan to make one happen every weekend. This way, everyone has a say, and you can stay entertained. You could even organize a virtual party through Zoom or Google Hangouts.

4. Plant a garden

There’s no better time than now to start a fun outdoor project. Whether you own a house with a large yard or rent a small apartment with a balcony, you can plant a garden! Feel free to grow your own produce or stick to plants and flowers instead. Either way, this activity provides a heap of benefits – for instance, those who garden tend to eat more fruits and vegetables over time.

A garden also requires some work, so you’ll enjoy exercise as well!

Savor the outdoors from indoors

Even if you’re indoors you can still continue to experience nature at home.
