5 Ways to Optimize Your 25-Hour Day

5 Ways to Optimize Your 25-Hour Day Expand options

Who doesn’t want an extra hour to get things done? Enter daylight saving time—aka daylight savings time. This year the clock adjustment happens on November 3rd at 2AM, creating a single, glorious 25 hour day.

The concept of daylight saving can mostly be credited to inventor, diplomat, and renaissance man Benjamin Franklin. In 1784 he wrote a satirical essay about changing the clocks to save money on candles, and was later rewarded with a spot on the $100 bill.

Here are five space and mind-clearing ways to spend an extra hour:

1. Organize something you use every day.

They say every minute spent organizing earns back an hour—so turn that extra hour into an extra into 60 hours! Pick an area where you get things done, and put things in order. Clear off that desk. Re-stack those pots and pans. Turn your closet into a well-organized closet.

And if you really want to clear some room, MakeSpace can help. We’ll pick up and store your unused items, and deliver them back when you need them.

2. A fitness power hour.

The Mayo Clinic recommends at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day, and if time was the issue, now you’ve got some. You can do a serious workout in an hour or less, even without a gym or equipment. Find some efficient exercise plans here.

3. Purge—and donate—like a pro.

Those acid-washed jeans and you’ve had some great times together. Same with that neon ski jacket at the back of your closet. But, it’s time to part ways.

Spend an hour making like Marie, and gather a few items that no longer spark that joy. You’ll enjoy the extra space, and someone in need will get something they need.

Try some of our favorite winter donation recommendations: Goodwill, NY Cares, and One Warm Coat.

4. Catch up with someone special.

Call your mom. Text your BFF. Email an old colleague. Relationships with family and friends make us happier and healthier, but they also take time and effort. Daylight savings is a great day to reach out to someone important in your life.

5. Waste it.

Seriously. If none of the above sounds appealing, maybe your brain and body could use a little break. It’s not every day that we get an extra hour for a glass of wine and a Netflix show, so you might as well enjoy it.

Happy daylight saving! Now, use it wisely.
