As part of the government’s plan to stop the spread of COVID-19, thousands of restaurants, bars, stores and other businesses across the country have shut down.
We’ve been advised to distance ourselves from others and self-quarantine. But how do you get by on minimal resources while managing you and your loved ones’ well-being?
Keep Calm and Stay Indoors (as much as possible)
While it’s understandably easy to fly into a panic during this time, remaining calm is crucial. It’s been tried and tested around laboratories around the world that social distancing has limited the spread of this dreadful virus. So, while you play your part here’s how to get by while keeping in mind your mental and physical well-being.
Avoid Piling Up On Groceries

As many of us are crowding grocery stores, these spaces might not be the safest to frequent during these times. Rather than piling up on items you may not need, it’s best to first use up what’s in your home. You might have to make the occasional trip to restock items but work towards making this a short trip with a list in hand and during off-peak hours, if possible.
Be Mindful of Your Water Usage
Even if you are washing hands often (and for a full 20 seconds), make sure to turn the tap off during the scrubbing period. You can turn it back again to wash. Being mindful of saving water will reduce the risk of water shortage.
Save Away
Saving is always a good idea but especially during these times. Instead of ordering in all your meals, stow those resources away for a later time. It’ll give you peace of mind knowing you’re covered in case food or utilities become more expensive in the coming months.
Use Resources Wisely
Consider if it makes sense to buy vs rent a home. Research and find out if your living expenses can be cut down to be a smart saver.
Connect with Others

Stay in touch with your community. Even if you’re distancing yourself physically, you can still stay connected with your loved ones. There have been heartwarming stories of people donating extra items in their homes or donating other resources to less privileged.
Be Hopeful
As the local and federal authorities choose to either close or reopen businesses, they’ll likely continue to strive to support the welfare of the general public. The best thing you can do (for your mental and overall well-being) is to stay positive that the crisis will be over soon.
After all, it’s important to remind ourselves that businesses will reopen and all will be right in the end.
