1. Check your schedule
Consider if you have any vacation time available and what events may be coming up. Check if there are any major meetings at work you must attend. These details will help you begin formulating your options.
2. Begin brainstorming
Think about what type of vacation you would like to have before the year-end. Check what travel policies are in place for the state you’re traveling to, and your city. Your vacation could be a romantic trip or a family visit. Even a short vacation can be memorable during this time when weeks seem to be melding together.
3. Plan a weekend getaway

Weekend getaways can be the perfect way to execute a quick trip. If you’re in the New York tristate area consider Ocean City. NJ. Choose a destination that requires little travel time—especially if you’re driving during this time.
4. Organize assistance
If you have pets, look into boarding them or having a friend pet-sit. This might be particularly difficult now but with tools online—you can follow CDC’s sanitary measures and ensure your furry friends are well-taken care of during your getaway. It may even be worthwhile to ask your neighbors to keep an eye on your house while you are away.
5. Use a travel guide
If you plan a spontaneous trip (reading state guidelines for travel) you can plan as you go by using a travel guide for that city or state. That way, you’ll spend less time doing research and more time discovering unique opportunities.
